  This place was formerly known as Tranquebar. The name Tharangambadi means” place of the singing waves”. The beach is a very calm , clean and serene looking beach. The place is one of the most ozone rich places . This is because of its proximity to the ocean, abundant vegetation and low pollution levels.Research and studies conducted in the area have confirmed the high levels of ozone concentration, which is beneficial for respiratory health and overall well-being. The main attraction here is the Danish fort called Fort Dansborg. It is a symbol of the Danish colonialism in India.

Fort Dansborg

               In 1845, the Danish colony, including the fort, was sold to the British East India Company .The fort is a blend of Danish architectural design and local construction techniques, built primarily with brick and lime mortar.It is rectangular, with thick walls and large bastions at the corners, designed to withstand attacks. The fort had storage rooms, warehouses, barracks, and living quarters for Danish officials and soldiers. There were also cannons positioned for defense.

               The Bungalow on the Beach is a beautifully restored heritage property that captures the charm of the town’s colonial past. It is now a boutique hotel managed by Neemrana Hotels.The Bungalow on the Beach now functions as a luxury heritage hotel with eight well-appointed rooms named after ships and figures from the colonial era, such as “Oldenburg” and “Queen Anna Sophia.”
