Hazratbal Dargah

Juma market

As I went on a Friday I could experience the Juma market on the way to the Dargah. A roadside market selling fresh fruits , vegetables ,corn , mushrooms , black carrots and many more. Most of the vegetables sold here are sourced from farms which grow them nearby.

I saw meat being sold with variety of cuts and also the different parts sold separately. Then there are stalls selling winter clothes, shoes ,socks, mufflers and so on. On the way I saw a lady distributing some flavoured rice to everyone. it was part of a religious offering and it tasted great. Then I finally entered the dargah shrine known as Hazratbaldargah – a sight to behold.

Dargah

With Dal lake on one side surrounded by chinaar trees it was indeed a very relieving experience. The dargah is said to have preserved a hair strand of prophet Muhammad pbuh called Moi-e-muqqadas.The sacred relic is only displayed during special moments like Muhammad’s birthday. It’s the most holy place in Kashmir. It is a white marble structure with persian and iranian architectural influences. It’s said it took 11 years to complete building this place.

The Dargah is open to all faiths. The location enhances the beauty through its stunning natural setting. The shimmering waters of the lake create a scenic backdrop, reflecting the shrine’s divine aura. This place is a combination of architectural elegance with natural beauty.
